Review of Multiuser Detection and Interference Suppression Techniques for Satellite Ds-cdma

This report gives an overview of multiuser detection (MD) and interference suppression (IS) techniques that have been proposed for Direct-Sequence (DS)-Code-Division Multiple-Access (CDMA). We rst indicate how these techniques can be used in a satellite CDMA system, and then give a brief overview of MD and IS techniques that have been presented in the literature. Fundamental performance gains of some these techniques, relative to the matched-lter detector, are demonstrated for the additive white Gaussian noise multiple-access channel. We then describe adaptive linear IS, which is suitable for both the forward and reverse links, and potentially ooers signiicant gains in capacity relative to the matched lter detector. Issues that arise when including adaptive linear IS in a cellular CDMA system are discussed, and references to recent work which attempts to address these issues are provided.
